When will the National Aquatic Centre open?

Dear Editor,

Every day, for the past three years on my way to Georgetown I drive along the Railway Embankment road.  At Liliendaal opposite the Caricom building I can see the building that is the National Aquatic Centre, well painted and with a well-fortified steel fence. The building is always shut. A guard is there daily and because I love swimming and wanted to swim, last week I built up the courage to stop and walk over to meet the guard and ask her when the centre would be open.

The pretty guard with a fresh smile on her face replied, “I do not know; why not ask the Minister of Sports, me too waiting so that I can swim one day here, everyday people asking me that question.”

Flattered and encouraged with that answer and with an inflated desire to swim there I thought of writing to SN, hoping that the Minister of Sport reads the Stabroek News, if he has the time from his busy schedule.

Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)
