Synthetic track will not be completed for 2012

Dear Editor,

The letter from Mr Alfred King, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, was well received (‘Ministry of Sport disturbed by procedure used to sensationalize apparent sloth in progress of synthetic track’ SN, February 4).

I had suggested in a letter to the editor that a comment be forthcoming from the office mentioned above, and had commended the SN for highlighting the current state of the synthetic track with an image. That was just after January 27. However, my original contribution was edited when it appeared in the SN. This, I have no control over and have to respect the editor’s decisions.

Having said that, it is now my personal opinion that it is almost impossible for the synthetic track project to be completed for 2012 after reading Mr King’s correspondence. It is no fault of Mr King’s, but we should cater for contingencies when embarking on projects. The mere fact that it has been made clear to people from reading his letter, convinces me that feedback is necessary.

Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton
