The Pomeroon River should have a police outpost

Dear Editor,

Over the past fifteen years I have been on record as calling for a police outpost at the Pomeroon River. To date, no sign of my call to set up the outpost has materialized, so I wish to sound this call once again.

The outpost would serve several purposes; with the increase in traffic to Port Kaituma and other mining areas it could monitor the boats plying these areas.

Now with fishermen under attack, we see the need once again. The coast guard could use the same base from which to monitor the water.

I wonder why government takes so long to act on this kind of advice when we see what is actually happening on a daily basis. Let us take this lesson as a serious one.

Yours faithfully,
Andrieko Basir
