Block D1 Bath, West Coast Berbice remains without power

Dear Editor,

I have a grievance with the Guyana Power and light. I have resided in Block D1 Bath, West Coast Berbice for over two years now and up to now we haven’t received any power supply in the area.

This has caused great problems in our village as theft is rampant.  The children of the community also need electricity to study and to do their homework. Of late I was studying for the CAT but because of the lack of power supply I had to stop because all my homework and research have to be done on the internet and I have lost a great deal of funds which the government will never refund neither will the school.  We have visited the office of GPL to seek advice and were told that they are awaiting instruction from the government to proceed in this operation. I have written to the chairman of GPL, the GPL office in our district (Onverwagt), WCB and the Prime Minister giving them the average total of residents living in the area who were at home at the time when I took my personal time off to go to each home for their signatures on October 2011. Before elections the Minister of Water, Hon. Irfaan Ali was at a community meeting and told us that we will be having electricity before September 2011 month end but up to now we haven’t seen this promise fulfilled. In addition I have telephone records of calls I made to the office of the prime minister and the secretary of Minister Ali.

Thanking you in anticipation for publishing my grievance.

Yours faithfully,
