Dear Editor,
Every day we all read in the newspapers about members of Parliament accusing the government of lack of transparency. Here in Bartica members of the opposition party raise similar issues in relation to government offices:
1. When the NDC office in Bartica was audited the auditors found large discrepancies, etc. Aren’t there supposed to be some consequences?
2. Those who ran the Bartica Regatta for five years did not account to the REO or the people of Bartica for any profits made. Why is the Bartica Regatta not accountable to the RDC? We are calling for an audit for the years 2006 to 2011. This Regatta is a calendar event and a long holiday weekend, when Guyanese flock to our community, and Pageant tourism booms. Why does the regional administration get nothing? We are calling on the government and the opposition to address this matter with urgency.
The Regatta in Bartica is the people‘s Regatta.
