City council unaware of any discussion related to a crematorium

Dear Editor,

Kaieteur News of Saturday 21/04/2012 carried an article titled `Mayor and City Council to build modern crematorium’ – this, it states, is according to the purported Chairman of the Markets and Public Health Committees, Mr Ranwell Jordan.

The Mayoralty of Georgetown states as follows:

1. Neither the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Town Clerk nor City Engineer are aware of any ongoing discussion related to a crematorium.
2. The Engineer’s Department is in receipt of no instructions or request to look for a site for a crematorium.
3. Regrettably, we seem to have a small but vociferous cabal committed to making injudicious statements.
4. By way of example we had the recent statement as part of the City Council budgetary scheme 2012 to the effect that relief should be sought for the hundreds of millions owed by the municipality to the Guyana Revenue Authority, National Insurance Scheme and the Guyana Power and Light Company. There were no dialogues with the GRA, NIS, GPL or the competent authorities, with this appearing to be the figment of someone’s imagination. The Ministry has already commented on this absurdity.

At this time the council and citizens need to be wary and aware of these modern day city demagogues who  can only cause confusion by spreading misinformation.

Yours faithfully,
John Green

Office of the Mayor
