Dear Editor,
I hereby call on the Minister of Transport and Works to say how much longer Essequibo people will have to endure the current hardships travelling to Georgetown. When we learnt of the new ferries arriving we were very optimistic, but for several months now there has been no word from the subject minister. On behalf of all the people of Essequibo, inclusive of the islands and interior locations who depend on public transport to reach the other side of the river, I wish to call on those involved in the decision-making to act early and to tell us something. We have endured too much suffering and harassment travelling via slow and run-down vessels, and time is running out. I do hope all those reading this reminder would be motivated to persuade the subject minister, who appears to have been dormant for too long on the matter of the transport system, to get up and get. Maybe we will have to start a protest to have our demands met.
