Why no Freedom of Information Act?

Dear Editor,

On May 26, 2012, Guyana acknowledged 46 years of independence. At present, we have passed one decade into the 21st century.

Many Guyanese home and abroad are bewildered why Guyana is still without a Freedom of Information Act. They are observing the various loans obtained by the ruling PPP/C government. Nonetheless, as with the PNC, absolutely no bona fide effort as far as can be seen, is being made to provide to the populace with information on the current state of indebtedness of Guyana to the various lender countries.

Yours faithfully,
Ramayana Deo Banajee
