Ramkarran and others have always known about the corruption

Dear Editor,

The fact that Mr Ralph Ramkarran actually used his party’s newspaper to inveigh against rampant corruption is significant. I don’t for one moment believe that the scope of this problem has only recently come to his attention. I can however be persuaded that this is a sign that there is now real fear that corruption is a burden that is damaging the image of the PPP/C irretrievably.

Mr Ramkarran and others have always known about the corruption. They allowed that monster to thrive and grow under their noses and said nothing against it publicly. Now that the monster threatens to consume their party, they cannot speak out with credibility.

It is sad that we have come to the place where we almost long for the rough and tumble politics of Burnham and Jagan. At least then we could explain what was happening as dirty politics. The unmitigated self aggrandizement and lack of interest in the national well-being that characterize the present, is just downright iniquitous.

Yours faithfully,
