Dear Editor,
After carefully checking the date on a particular coin which I have had for many years in my collection, I have just found out that it carries the year 1834 which makes it 178 years old. The National Museum and the private museum on the West Coast of Demerara might very well top me in having coins that are earlier.
I would have topped Mr Hubert Urling and Mr Khalil Mohamed who in 1972 stated that they were in possession of coins from 1835,1836 and 1838 respectively, according to a Chronicle report dated June 24, 2012, headlined ‘Old coins… Daily Chronicle, March 22, 1972‘ by Mr Clifford Stanley.
