Restore City Hall to its former glory

Dear Editor,

In 1960 when I started to attend concerts at the Town Hall, I found it very entertaining and relaxing. These concerts were held every Sunday afternoon. Many leading choirs performed, eg the Woodside Choir, the Police Male Voice Choir as well as some international artistes giving piano recitals. The acoustics of this building were so good that there was no eed for a public address system.

Recently I paid a visit to the Town Hall; there were no chairs and I learnt that the building leaked. This City Hall has a long and proud history. The architecture is so good. I only hope that those who are concerned or are responsible for its upkeep would be able to restore this building to its former glory.

The Town Hall in days gone by was a showpiece for all music lovers and others. Many years ago the Town Hall had an organ. It would be very expensive to restore the building. It would however be worth it for concerts and other cultural activities to grace the premises again.

Yours faithfully,
Laurie Greenidge
