Guyana should establish ties with significant African countries

Dear Editor,

Guyana does not  have diplomatic ties with significant African countries. Looking through a list of countries that  Guyana does not have diplomatic ties with, I realized that a significant number of them are African.  The list can be found on the Guyana  Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. Maybe there is an error or the list hasn’t been updated.
Countries with which Guyana does not have diplomatic ties, according to the Foreign Ministry list are Burkina Faso, Burundi, Eritrea,  Djibouti, Gabon, Mali, Chad, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of  Congo, Mauritania, Rwanda. Somalia, the Sudan, Tunisia, Togo, Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.

Among the list are some very political and geographically significant countries, for example the Sudan, Central  African Republic and Gabon. And since Guyana is member of the  United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, which these nations are members of, it should be easy to establish ties through New York and Kuwait.

Yours faithfully,
Ray Chickrie
