GWI did involve city in talks on sewerage programme

Dear Editor,

GWI wishes to respond to an article published in the Saturday, October 20 edition of the Stabroek News titled `Mayor Condemns GWI over major works without city’s input’.

The company wishes to state that the author’s statement which indicated that GWI did not involve the Mayor and City Council in consultations regarding the Government of
Guyana- funded Georgetown Sewerage Rehabilitation Programme is erroneous.

Guyana Water Incorporated extended an invitation to key operatives of the Mayor and City Council to the initial meetings regarding the Programme.  The meetings were attended by these representatives, including Assistant City Engineer Kenson Boston, who provided vital input to the execution of the sewerage rehabilitation programme.

The company is in possession of documentation to validate this position, including minutes of meetings held with representatives of the Mayor and City Council.  Future consultations with the operatives of the M&CC are planned and the Company’s Capital Investment and Planning Department continues to seek the advice and input of Mayor and City Council personnel.

GWI remains committed to the involvement of all stakeholders and the success of the Georgetown Sewerage Rehabilitation Programme.

Yours faithfully,
Timothy Austin
Public Relations Officer
Guyana Water Incorporated
