The opposition should collaborate with the government in the matter of the WICB

Dear Editor,

Cricket enthusiast, the Minister of Sport Dr Anthony has made his government’s position pellucidly clear in the Stabroek News of December 1. He said that the GCB is defunct since many of the officers have resigned as well as the trustees. There is also an injunction against them, that prohibits them from operating as the Guyana Cricket Board and that the WICB is aware of all of these things. He also said that the law will take its course and that the attempts to pick a team to send to the WICB were futile. He has requested therefore that the WICB send one or two persons to oversee or to work along with the IMC which was established legally and correctly to fill the void, until the constitution is passed through Parliament and a proper and legal cricket board election can be held.

The WICB has lost court cases to WIPA in the past, and Guyana has sufficient evidence to take legal action against the WICB for moving a Test match from Guyana and for accepting an affiliate cricket board election as legal when there was sufficient evidence to show it was not. This nonsense the WICB is doing to Guyana should stop. I am calling on the opposition parties to work along with this government so that justice, integrity and our sovereignty can be regained. After that, they can continue their in-fighting. Our country needs their support in this matter, pronto.

Yours faithfully,
Omar Bacchus
