Ramotar to seek advice from AG over GCB issue

President Donald Ramotar will seek the advice of the Attorney General in relation to the members of the National Twenty20 team’s appeal to him, Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Cricket Development Officer Robin Singh said yesterday.

According to Singh, he spoke with President Ramotar yesterday morning via telephone and was given the assurance that he (Ramotar) would look into the matter.

“I spoke to him on behalf of the players by phone this morning,” Singh recounted adding “he is taking the concerns of the players very seriously.”

According to Singh, President Ramotar will seek the advice of the Attorney General in how to proceed.

“His main area of concern is that he does not want to overturn the Court Oder,” Singh said.

The 14 members of the national twenty20 team which is preparing for Monday’s opening round of the  West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) regional tournament, are concerned that the decision by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport to replace the Guyana Cricket Board with an Interim management Committee could affect the players participation in the tournament.

Singh said the WICB has given the GCB a deadline of today to indicate whether they will be able to participate in the tournament.

According to Singh, the GCB has been unable to function because the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has locked the Regent Street office of the Guyana Cricket Board.

“The cheque book is in the office, locked up. We have purchased uniforms for the team and they are locked in a bond at the Timehri Airport.”

Singh said that the uniforms for the players were bought from the Indian firm Prabaha Sports which produce world class sporting equipment brands Bas and Vampire.

He said it was the same company that did the uniforms for Guyana’s participation in the Airtel Champions League tournament.

According to Singh, the Guyana team is scheduled to leave on Saturday but the GCB has to assure the WICB by 4pm today, that they are able to satisfy all the requirements financial and otherwise necessary for participation in the tournament.
