Butts named Harvard Rugby Player-of-the-Year in T&T

The former national captain, who is the captain of the Harvard Rugby Club, was also named the most disciplined player.

Butts, 27, who has helped Guyana win several North America Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) titles  has used his experience and leadership to help the Harvard Rugby team to be successful in the 2011 season.

Butts, who enjoyed a successful 2011, also copped the Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Football Union National Sevens Championship M.V.P. as well as the Harvard Rugby Festival M.V.P. award.

The national player, who is currently in preparation with other players from the national team, will be tasked with helping Guyana to excel at the upcoming Las Vegas Invitational Sevens from February 9 to 11.

The Las Vegas tournament will serve as a warm-up ahead of the team’s participation at the HSBC Sevens World Series in Hong Kong from March 23 to 25.

Guyana earned a place at the HSBC Sevens World Series after Butts helped the team to win their sixth consecutive North America Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) title last November in Barbados by demolishing the Cayman Islands by 29 points to nil.

The team will wing out to Las Vegas on February 6.
