The Kashif and Shanghai organization and Ram’s Pharmacy yesterday threw their combined weight behind the Thomas United Mashramani football tournament.
At the organisation’s Irving Street Office yesterday, Kashif Muhammad presented five balls and the second place trophy to a representative of Thomas United.
In expressing gratitude, Thomas United FC president Oliver Hinckson, said that the donation was a move in the right direction by the Kashif and Shanghai organization in terms of nurturing the youths and towards the development of sports and football.
“I get the impression that Mr. Muhammad has been a bit penitent with regards to whatever conflict he has had with some members of the public. But I believe that if a man sins 10 times, he must be forgiven 10 times 10.”
Avinash Ouditt, a representative of Ram’s Pharmacy, said that the company handed what could be termed a sizable monetary donation to the organisers of the tournament.
Hinckson said that the club was in the process of rebuilding its team under the watchful eye of coach Linden Bacchus.
“We have been derelict in this area by not grooming a nursery,” he admitted.
Hinckson added that the tournament will be used to honour past players for their contribution to the development of the sport at both the club and national level.
“It has produced the most national players and it has the record for one the highest international goal scorer who is Deon Barnwell and having produced Earl O’Neil who has played the most consecutive times for Guyana,” he noted.
The Mashramani Challenge Cup according to Hinckson will be an annual feature.
