Megastar sprinter confirms Golden Spike participation

OSTRAVA, Czech Republic, CMC – Usain Bolt continues to fashion his diary of events for the year with confirmation that he will contest the 100 meters at the Golden Spike meet on May 25. The reigning Olympic 100 meters champion from Jamaica will be making his sixth appearance in the event.

“It is widely known that I love the meet and it is one of the first meets that I pencil in my calendar each year,” said Bolt in a media release.  “The Golden Spike meeting always has a full house and the fans are so full of energy – every year they push me to good performances. It is a good track and nice stadium where the fans are close to the action.”

He added: “Ostrava will be my first European Grand Prix in 2012. I have already announced the Golden Gala in Rome and the Bislett Games in Oslo the following weeks.

“After this, I will return home to Jamaica to prepare for our Olympic Trials. Training has gone well over the winter and I am looking forward to competing.”

Bolt will be part of a star-studded cast that includes compatriot Veronica Campbell-Brown in the women’s 100, as well as LaShawn Merritt and Oscar Pistorius in the 400, Christian Cantwell and Dylan Armstrong in the shot put, Dayron Robles at 110m hurdles, and Barbora Spotakova in javelin.
