ADELAIDE, Australia, CMC – Injury has put Australia captain Michael Clarke’s tour of the West Indies in doubt.
The right-hander damaged his left hamstring en route to 117 in the second match of the Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka on Tuesday and has been ruled out for the limited overs phase of the Caribbean trip.
Reports indicate that Clarke could be out for up to four weeks, also putting his participation in the three-Test series in danger.
Australia leave tomorrow for the Caribbean tour that runs from March 16 to April 27.
“It doesn’t look great for certainly the early part of the one-day series in the West Indies,” Australia coach Mickey Arthur said.
Clarke was set to undergo scans on the hamstring to determine the extent of the injury which will see him miss today’s decider in the Tri-Series.
He had only returned on Sunday from a three-game injury break as he recovered from right hamstring strain.
The 30-year-old yesterday remained guarded about his role on the Caribbean tour.
“I have done something to my left hamstring, I don’t know to what extent,” Clarke said.
“But it’s obviously not feeling good at the moment, that is for sure. We leave for West Indies in three days … I don’t want to make a judgment until I make a scan, I think I would be silly to do that.”
