Robin Persaud wins final leg of Cheddi Jagan Memorial 50-mile race

Top veteran rider Robin Persaud outsprinted first leg winner, junior rider Raynauth Jeffrey to claim the third and final leg of the fifth annual El Dorado Trading and S. Jagmohan sponsored National Sports Commission (NSC) organised Cheddi Jagan Memorial 50-mile cycle road race in Essequibo on Sunday.

Persaud, 36, won the event in two hours, nine minutes and 32 seconds.

Differently–abled Walter Grant-Stewart, Lindener Orville Hinds, Albert Philander and another top veteran Junior Niles completed the top six positions.

The event which pedaled off from Supenaam, then proceeded to Charity and back to Anna Regina for the finish, attracted 42 riders including female cyclist Naomi Singh.

In  placing second overall, Jeffrey was also the top junior rider followed by Kurt LaRose and second stage winner Paul DeNobrega.

Alfie Sonaram, 13, of Flying Stars Cycle Club, received an award for being the youngest cyclist, while Walter Isaacs received his prize for being the first over-60 cyclist to cross the finish line.
