Hikers take charge of second division hockey league

Hikers Hockey Club  remain unbeaten following two more victories over the weekend as the John Fernandes Insurance Service second division hockey league approaches the final lap.

Hikers demolished All Greys 3-0, their closest rival in the points standing  to dent the veteran side’s hopes of challenging them for the title following their second round triumph. They also edged out Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) 2-1 in matches played at  St. Stanislaus ground on Carifesta Avenue.

In the match against  GCC, Hikers who took the lead when Colonel Heywood found the back on the net in the 20th Minute.

The Bourda Boys responded when with a ferocious shot from the top of the circle.

This however, was not enough to stop the Hikers as they edged forward to 2-1 when Andrew Stewart in the 66th minute beat GCC’s goalkeeper Hing.

In their clash with All Greys Hikers staved off an early challenge before taking control and cruised to victory.

Andrew Stewart, Kurt Waddle and Randy Hope were the goal scorers for Hikers.

The second matchup between Old Fort and Saints was an intense clash between two teams looking to edge forward in the league and it ended 1-1.

Old Fort opened the scoring with Dwight McCalman in the 13th Minute after he dribbled past Saints’ defenders and sent in his shot which beat the goalkeeper. However, intense pressure displayed by the Saints allowed them to even the scores when Devon Scott in the 29th minute beat past goalkeeper Aderemi Simon with a deflection.

All Greys and GCC also played to a 3-3 draw in their clash last Friday at GCC ground.
