Alpha United seeking clarification on CFU participation

Vice-president of Alpha “The Hammer” United Football Club, Steve Ninvalle said  that his club is seeking clarification from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) as to whether the club will advance to the next round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) club championship.

During yesterday’s opening day of the Golden Jaguar’s camp ahead of their friendly international fixtures versus Martinique and Guadeloupe on May 2nd and 4th, national assistant coach Wayne “Diggy” Dover who is also Alpha’s head coach had noted that he was unsure whether himself and the  Alpha United players would be participating in those matches.

This is because of the likely clash of dates with CFU second round matches scheduled to kick off from May 1st – 6th in Puerto Rico, but he hoped a potential change of dates could occur so that all parties could be satisfied.

Speaking to the media briefly about that situation at the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) boardroom in Ruimveldt, during the launching of an Under-16 boxing tournament, Ninvalle said: “We are unsure of the club’s situation with regards to the CFU participation as things stand at the moment. We wrote the acting GFF president Franklin Wilson seeking clarification recently on it,” explained Ninvalle.

He added: “Last I checked on the Wikipedia website I saw Alpha has been listed as qualified for the second round in a group comprising Puerto Rico Islanders of Puerto Rico, Georgetown of Cayman Islands and Caledonia AIA of Trinidad, but this is obviously not official, so we just need to be sure. However the team is still training with that competition in mind.”

In group two matches in the first round of the CFU championship held in Guyana from April 17th – 21st, Alpha United defeated local club Milerock 2-0 and Curacao team Hubentut Fortuna 3-1.

These wins propelled them to a second place finish in their group on six points behind Surinamese club Inter Moengotapoe who were unbeaten in their three fixtures, that aided them in securing the maximum nine points.
