Everest/Gandhi to clash in Lipton Tea Cup tomorrow

Everest Cricket Club will battle Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) in a specially arranged limited overs cricket match organized by the De Sinco Group of Companies to mark the arrival of East Indians to Guyana.

The match will take place tomorrow at the Everest Cricket Club ground and the 50-overs-a-side encounter will have at stake the Lipton Cup trophy. The match starts at 9:30 am sharp.

This was disclosed at the launching ceremony Thursday at the DeSinco Trading office on Sheriff Street.

Frank De Abreu, Managing Director of DeSinco, said that the match will be funded by the Group of Companies. He added that it will portray the traditional matches played centuries ago, noting that it will be played with a red ball and  white clothes and not coloured clothing and white balls as has become the norm.

He also promised that the match will be exciting.

DeAbrue said that executives from the Gandhi Youth Organization and presidents from different local cricket clubs will all be in attendance.

He added  that there will be an award for the man of the match and also said that there will be honoring an outstanding east Indian Guyanese in the cricket fraternity after the match would have finished.

Surendra Hiralal, captain of the (GYO) stated that they (the members of the team) are excited about the match and  promised to perform  at their best come tomorrow.

Some of the players selected by the GYO to play for the match are John Champagne, Wayne DeBarros, Triston Liverpool, Richard Hoyte, Ryan Shaun, Anthoney Ifill and  Rajest Persaud.

According to a press release, there will be a similar Lipton Cup tournament in August.

Players are asked to assemble at the Everest Cricket ground on the day of the match for a practice session at 8:30am. Admission is free.
