DDL on board – Guyana Independence T20 Million Dollar Cup picks up momentum

The much-anticipated Guyana Independence Twenty/20 Cup in Berbice got a major boost when  Demerara Distlillers Limited (DDL) delivered a solid sponsorship package yesterday for the tournament  at Albion Sports Complex on May 26.

The tournament which is slated as part of the celebrations to mark Guyana’s 46th Anniversary will feature high calibre players in the county such as West Indies Test spinner Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Gudakesh Motie-Khanhai, Jonathan Foo, Andrea Pervival, Gaganand Singh, Rajiv Ivan and Sewnarine Chattergoon who are all expected to spark up the Albion Park.

The day’s action will showcase four  exciting teams, including Berbice/Universal DVD Titans, Karibee Rice Tigers, Hits and Jams Superstars and New Line Cavaliers battling for supremacy and over one million dollars in prizes.  At a simple presentation yesterday at the DDL Berbice Office, Branch Manager Albert Budhoo presented the company’s  sponsorship package to secretary of the tournament, Cosmata Lindie in the presence of co-coordinator Anil Beharry.

Speaking briefly the Branch Manager expressed DDL’s delight to be associated with the tournament as they  see this event as a unity game that will help to promote cricket in Berbice.  DDL has been actively involved in community development through sports and Beharry thanked the sponsor and pledged that the tournament will be managed with proper accountability and transparency.

Patrons will have an opportunity to win fabulous prizes, including cell phones, Mp3 players, Lazy Boy suite, cricket gears, and hampers among other free tokens from various companies. The games will commence at 10:30 hrs with two games being played in daylight and a cultural ceremony. In the night the atmosphere will have big screen projectors, cheer leaders and 10 light towers.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Crown Vibes International Sound Systems and admission to the venue is $500 for adults and $200 for children.

Gates will open from 9:00 Hrs.

Tickets will be sold only at the venue and patrons are urged to grab them before they are sold out because the co-ordinators do not want to experience overcrowding.

Digicel Guyana said it will be coming big onboard offering special promotions, giveaways and tokens for patrons and Berbicians.
