CANTERBURY, England, CMC – Out-of-favour West Indies batsman Brendan Nash stroked an unbeaten half-century as Kent took first day honours over Leicestershire in the County Championship here yesterday.
Nash finished the day at St Lawrence Ground on 50 as Kent, responding to Leicestershire’s paltry 141, closed on 104 for two.
The left-hander, a former West Indies vice-captain, has faced 77 balls and struck six fours in an innings lasting just over an hour-and-a-half.
He has so far added an unbroken 68 for the third wicket with opener Robert Key (23 not out) after Kent slipped to 36 for two in reply.
Nash, with a century and two half-centuries in his last eight Tests, was dropped by Windies selectors for a lean patch last year when he managed just 54 runs from six innings.
Earlier, another out-of-favour West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan suffered a rare failure this season when he fell for 17 as Leicestershire collapsed after they opted to bat first.
Leicestershire were tottering at 66 for six before Wayne White (38) and Ned Eckersley (31 not out) combined in a 56-run, seventh stand to extend the innings.
