Junior Badminton tournament in full swing

The National Sports Commission-sponsored Independence Junior Badminton tournament continues today at the Queen’s College Courts with several matches.

On Wednesday Pan American bronze medalist and Caribbean Under-11 and Under 13 champion Priyanna Ramdhani emerged victorious in her two categories. Ramdhani defeated Ria Persram in the finals of the Under-11 category 21-2 and 21-2. In the Under-13 category she defeated Kara Abrams 21-8 and 21-8.

Another champion was Meer Rahaman who defeated Christopher  Killikelly in the final of the Boys Under -11 singles. The scores were 21-6 and 21-12.

Omari Joseph defeated Shane Shewjattan to secure a victory in the Boys Under-13 category: 21-18, 19-21, 21-11

Meanwhile, Narayan Ramdhani and Noel Shewjattan will contest the final of the Boys Under-17  singles category. The two defeated Cecil Abrams and Jonathan Mangra respectively in the semi-finals.

In the Girls Under-17 singles Greer Jackson, Varsha Boodram, and Angelica Holder have advanced to the semifinals.

The four defeated Ambika Ramraj, Crystal Dey and Moshoon Persaud respectively to advance to the semi-finals.

The last quarter-final match will be played today and that will be followed by semi-final matches.

President of the Badminton Association, Gokarn Ramdhani via telephone told Stabroek Sport that competition is scheduled to be completed today, but  an extension might be needed.
