Domino Federation to name players for England, US tournaments

The Guyana National Domino Federation is expected to  announce next month the names of players to contest the  18th Biennial International Domino Triangular tournament in England from August 2nd to 16th and the World Conference of Domino Federation Championship in Orlando, Florida from August 15th to 27th.

Gwen McGowan, Secretary of the National Domino Federation and also Vice-President of the World Council of Domino Federation with responsibility for tournaments said that players are in the process of applying for their relevant travel documents for England and the United States.

The two teams will be named after persons would have received their visas. The secretary said that Guyana’s performance in both of the competitions would depend on the number of persons granted visas.

The players currently applying for their visas were selected from competitions held countrywide.

The Federation is hoping to take fourteen players to England and twenty-five to the United States.

With the required number of players, Guyana would stand a chance of performing excellently at both tournaments, but that is dependent on the number of visas granted, she said.

In London, Guyana will come up against players from the host country as well as their counterparts from the United States, while players from twenty countries would be competing in the World Championship in the United States.

Three-hand domino competition will feature in the triangular tournament in England, while the World championship will see a number of categories: four hand, mixed pairs, male pairs, female pairs, female 3- hand, male 3-hand, king and queen domino.

The last World championship was held in St. Lucia in 2008 when  Guyana lost to the host country, but returned with a number of team and individual prizes.
