Jerome Khan elected president of Lusignan Golf Club

Only two members of the previous executive committee were returned as Attorney-at-law Jerome Khan took over the helm of the Lusignan Golf Club followed its Annual General Meeting   Saturday at the Club House in Lusignan Village, East Coast of Demerara.

Khan, a former Club Captain, took over the presidency from Banking Executive Brian Hackett who did not seek re-election.

Kishun Bacchus is the new vice president with Dave Mohamed elected secretary and Mark Lashley,  treasurer.

Mike Gayadin, who served as ground superintendent in the previous administration, was elected assistant secretary/treasurer while Rawle Moore will serve as club captain.  Chatterpaul Deo is the new ground superintendent while Troy Peters was returned as Public Relations Officer.

Gayadin and Peters were the two officials returned to office from the previous administration.

Maurice Solomon and Company remained the Auditors. The returning officer was attorney-at-law Keavon Bess.

Hackett, in his report said that the club was in a healthy financial position and he thanked corporate Guyana for supporting the development of the Club.

“The Executive committee with the help of our valued sponsors and members hosted 44 tournaments, this represented an improvement over the previous year,” Hackett declared.

He said an extended rainy season and poor drainage hampered several activities during the year: “Despite the climate condition the club must continue to strive to look for the knowledge, technology and finance necessary to improve the draining of excess water that is lodged of the grounds during the rainy seasons.”

Khan is brief remarks thanked the outgoing Committee for their commitment and dedication.  He said the Committee will be engaging the relevant authority to have the access road to the Club fixed.

Khan pledged to donate a tractor to the club to assist in the overall improvement of the grounds.

He said that the new management committee will meet shortly to organise activities for the remainder of the year including the premier event, the Guyana Open normally held at the end of October.
