DCC Centenary celebrations…DCC gets the better of PSC by 31 runs

The Christopher Barnwell-led Demerara Cricket Club yesterday defeated Police Sports Club by 31 runs in 12 overs-a-side match at the DCC ground Queenstown. The match the third in the DCC centenary celebrations involving DCC, Police and the Atlantis Cricket Club of the USA, was originally scheduled to be a 20-overs-a-side affair but was reduced owing to adverse weather earlier in the day.  On a sticky wicket DCC won the toss and elected to bat.

Andrew Lyght Jr.,

Barnwell, who has earned a place in the West Indies Provisional squad for the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka this year made a quickfire 41 with four sixes and a solitary four before he was stumped off Vishal Jaigobin.  The real entertainment came from Andrew Lyght Jr as he blasted his way to an unbeaten 83 an innings which included nine sixes and three fours.

DCC finished on an imposing 142 for 3 in their 12 overs. Bowling for Police there was a wicket apiece for Jason Heyliger, Jaigobin and Jermain Reynolds.  Police, in reply, finished on 111 for 6 with Reynolds contributing 51 in a losing cause. DCC will play the touring side Atlantis Cricket Club today at the same venue.
