Badminton players lose first round singles matches

All the players on the Guyana Badminton Association team which is competing in the XXI Pan American Junior Badminton Championships in Alberta, Canada lost their singles matches yesterday.

According to reports, Avinash Odit lost to Javier Macagno of Guatemala (U19): 22-20, 21-10;Narayan Ramdhani lost to Andre Luiz Nascimiento of Brazil (U15): 21-15, 22-20;Jonathan Mangra lost to Francisco Treviño of Mexico (U15): 21-4, 21-4; Jonathan Persaud lost to Jose Guevara of Canada (U15): 21-3, 21-8; Ambika Ramraj lost to Jacquelyn Kan of USA: 21-7, 21-5(U15); Nadine Jairam lost to Ines Castillo of Canada (U15): 21-7, 21-7 and Priyanna Ramdhani lost to Jasleen Kaur of Canada(U11): 21-15, 22-20.

President of the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) Gokarn Ramdhani, said the team suffered from the late arrival of their suitcases which caused them to arrive just mere hours before they were scheduled to play.

Ramdhani said the late delivery of the suitcases, which took almost an hour, caused them to miss their connecting flight. “The team managed to catch the next flight at 8:30am in the morning and arrived at 10:30am in Edmonton for the Championships where at 1:00pm the players had to play their first round singles after little rest due to travelling,” said Ramdhani.
