‘Future World Champions’ bouts carded for Sports Hall tonight

The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) will come alive tonight when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) stages its 25th edition of its Fight Night Pro Am card.

The silver edition of the event which is dubbed ‘Future World Champions’ will be headlined by local champions, featherweight Clive ‘Wonder Kid’ Atwell and lightweight Revlon Lake.

Atwell, 23, will match gloves with the Barbados-based Lake in an eight-round junior lightweight contest.

At the usual press briefing which was held yesterday at the National Communications Network (NCN) studios, both Lake and Atwell threw verbal jabs at each other, anticipating a victory.

Lake said he does not plan on going the distance and promised to end the scheduled eight-rounder in four rounds.
“This would not be a tough fight for me,” boasted Lake. “Atwell would not last past four rounds, I will be going hard at him and he will sleep, it will be an early night.”

The undefeated Dominica-based ‘Wonder Kid’ retorted that it would be an uphill task for Lake to take him out in four rounds.
“The harder they come, the harder they fall, I will take care of my business in the ring, and Lake can talk whatever he wants, with all my preparation I will win this easy,” said Atwell

Will Atwell remain unbeaten or will Lake end the ‘Wonder Kid’s’ winning streak? The answer will be known  tonight.

Also at the press briefing yesterday, President of the GBBC and CABOFE, Peter Abdool intimated that there will be a mega card in September which will be headlined by former WBC cruiserweight champion, US- based Guyanese Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite at the Thirst Park Ground.

Meanwhile the professional undercard will feature Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym products bantamweight Richard Williamson and Kishawn Simon making their professional debut.

Williamson, who had an outstanding amateur career which includes winning a silver medal at the Ronald Wilson Memorial Tournament last year in Barbados, will match gloves with another debutant Dylan Allicock while Simon will take on Patrick Boston in a catch weight fight. Both of those bouts are scheduled for four rounds.

Gladwin Dorway, who won his debut bout last month by stopping David Thomas in the second round, will also feature on the undercard. Dorway will face Anson Green who also won his debut fight against Thomas in a four- round junior welterweight affair.
Middleweights Ron Smith and Romeo Norville will headline the amateur segment of the card.

The amateur undercard will feature Christopher Timmerman versus Kevon Mullings (70-74 pounds), Albert Thomas versus Orin Bancroft (90-94 pounds) and Shaka Moore versus Ryan Sumner (95-99 pounds).

The monthly card is an initiative of the GBBC in collaboration with the Sports Ministry and the National Communications Network (NCN).
Sponsors of the event include Digicel, Giftland Office Max, Courts, Banks DIH Limited and ANSA McAL. Admission is $1,000 while children will be asked to pay half price.  Bell time is 20:00 hrs.
