Rugby squads training sessions at Providence Stadium today

The men’s and women’s squads preparing for upcoming tournaments will be involved in practice sessions at the Providence National Stadium today from 2pm. According to a press release from the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) the women’s squad will undergo a Beep Test before commencing practice.

Guyana’s men’s rugby Sevens team (The Rugby Jaguars) heads Pool C with the Cayman Islands, Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados in the Rugby World Cup Regional Qualifiers which kicks off on August 25 in Ottawa, Canada.
Team USA heads Pool A which also includes Jamaica and St. Vincent & The Grenadines while Canada will head Pool B with Mexico, Bermuda and Bahamas the other groups.

Guyana’s women’s Sevens team (The Lady Rugby Jaguars) will contest a round-robin draw against Canada, Trinidad & Tobago, Cayman Islands, Mexico and Jamaica. The USA Women’s team has already qualified for the World Cup finals scheduled for Moscow next year.

The men’s team will defend its Caribbean Sevens Championships which it has held for the past six successive years while the women’s team, currently number two in the Caribbean, and will challenge for the championship which they held for three years previous prior to 2011.
