Regional Women’s Twenty/20 tournament …Guyana to play Grenada today

The Regional Women’s Twenty/20 tournament bowls off today in Jamaican and Guyana is expected to play Grenada in its opening match of round one at Chedwin Park.

Between today and August 17, Guyana is expected to play a total of seven matches before the semi-finals and finals.

According to Windiescricket.com, the players representing Guyana at the Regional tournament are June Ogle (captain), Akaze Thompson (vice captain), Shemaine Campbelle, Erva Giddings, Tracy Glasgow, Leana Harris, Melanie Henry, Hasena Mohammed, Subrina Munroe, Hema Singh, Tremayne Smartt, Latoya Smith, Joanne Vansertima and Prudence Williams.

However, the selection of Guyana’s team and its eventual departure from these shores remain a mystery especially since the Guyana Cricket Board executives have been barred from functioning due to a Court order.

An inter-county tournament of sorts was played and a team selected which will be coached by Clive Grimmond.

The players, Stabroek Sport understands were encamped at the Chetram Singh Centre for Excellence at the LBI.

It is unclear who are the persons responsible for selecting the team in the absence of a functional Guyana Cricket Board; who is paying the stipend for the players; who stood the expense for the Inter-County tournament and the team’s subsequent encampment and when did the team leave for Jamaica?

This publication up to last Friday was trying to get those questions answered, but was told by Grimmond that he could not divulge any information on the team nor could he say who should be contacted that could provide any information on the team.
