St Clair loses World title fight

Guyana’s Gairy `Superman’ St Clair lost a unanimous decision to Lovemore `Black Panther’ Ndou Friday night in Queensland, Australia for the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) welterweight title.

The former two-time world champion Ndou (49-13-2, 31 KOs) outscored former IBF champion St Clair over 12 rounds to capture the IBF Pan Pacific and WBF 147 pound title at the Southport RSL, Southport, Queensland, Australia Friday.

Gairy `Superman’ St Clair, left slips a left jab from Lovemore Ndou during their World Boxing Federation welterweight title fight in Australia on Friday.

According to the Fightnews website, “Ndou controlled the bout in the early rounds as he connected with solid left jabs that set up combinations on his skillful opponent, who continually used every inch of the ring and proved to be a difficult target.

“Rounds six and seven had the Guyana-born and Australian-based St Clair stepping up the action as he scored with fast combinations. Ndou regained control in round eight but switch hitter St Clair rallied in rounds nine and 10 – staying out of trouble with bob and weave tactics.

Ndou outworked St Claire in round 11 as he scored with jarring left jabs but once again St Clair gave Ndou problems in the 12 the and final stanza with his unorthodox tactics. Referee Phil Austin raised Ndou’s hand winner by scores 117-112, 116-112, 116-112.”

St Clair’s record now reads 56 fights, 42 wins (18Kos), 12 losses and one draw while Ndou’s record improved to 64 fights, 49 wins (KO31), 13 losses and two draws.

The fight, which was promoted by Jamie Myers, was televised on Foxtel Cable Television Network.
