KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaica Foot-ball Federation president, Captain Horace Burrell, believes the Reggae Boyz are poised to break their losing streak against powerhouses United States when the two sides square off in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifier next month.
In 18 meetings, Jamaica have failed to beat the US, losing ten of the encounters and drawing eight.
“We have never beaten the United States at the senior level, but this current group of players are determined more than ever to break that jinx,” Burrell said this week at the Manchester Football Association awards ceremony in Mandeville.
“We will have a team like a well oiled machine ready for action and I can assure you that the Reggae Boyz will once again make Jamaica proud.”
Jamaica face the US at the National Stadium here on September 7 before travelling to Columbus, Ohio for the return fixture four days later.
The match will be of crucial significance, especially with both teams locked in a tough battle in Group A, with the US ahead only on goal difference.
Both teams have four points after a win and a draw, with Antigua and Barbuda bottom of the four-team group on a single point.
Antigua are away to Guatemala in the next round with Guyana, the other English-speaking Caribbean side involved in the semi-finals, also on the road against El Salvador.
