GFF,GFA for court today

Lawyers and officials for the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) are due in court today to see whether a date will be announced for the beginning of the hearing involving the restoration of voting rights for the GFA.

Yesterday, Attorney-at-Law for the GFA, Roysdale Forde, in an invited comment, said that the two parties were still awaiting the court to set a date for the hearing.

The matter was adjourned on July 24 when the parties appeared before Justice Insanally who has since been reassigned to Berbice.
It is unclear who will now be hearing the matter.

A year has elapsed since the GFA took court action against the GFF after the two sides failed to come to an agreement outside the legal fraternity.

The GFA last year took the GFF to court in order to have its voting rights reinstated. President of the GFA Vernon Burnett said that the matter could have been remedied quickly and quietly but the GFF failed to keep its end of the agreement.

The GFF is being accused of suspending the voting rights of the GFA, which is the largest football sub-association.
According to Burnett several attempts have been made to have the matter resolved and letters were sent to the Sport Ministry, FIFA, CONCACAF and CFU all of which he said proved futile.

However, Burnett said the association has not closed the door on having the matter dealt with outside the courts as they plan to resend letters to the current executives of both CONCACAF and CFU.

Burnett said the GFA has been without its voting rights for over five years thereby preventing the sub-association from participating in any meaningful decision making process of the GFF.
