By Neil Barry jr

Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored an unbeaten even hundred and his son Tagenarine scored 65 and took three wickets to inspire an East Coast XI to a 19-run victory over the over the touring Prasad Cricket Club of  Trinidad.

East Coast, boasting the likes of the three Chanderpauls, the other being Khemraj, Rabindranauth Seeram and Sheik Mohamed, batted first on the placid pitch with good weather for cricket.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul, opening with Mohamed, started cautiously but gradually picked up the scoring as he made his way to 65, after which he retired.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul hit six fours in his 65 from 80 balls before retiring.

Test batsman Shivnarine began fluently and immediately settled into the run scoring machine he is known to be as he churned out yet another century allowing East Coast to finish on 209 -3 from 30 overs. All three generations of Chanderpauls represented East Coast and, although the most senior Chanderpaul did not get an opportunity to bat, he took the opportunity to have a bowl as the game was played in good spirit, with both teams fielding predominantly over 40-players.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul hit seven fours and two sixes in his brisk knock which lasted just 60 deliveries, until he too retired. Sheik Mohamed played the supporting hand with 33, which included three fours and used 44 deliveries. The pick of the Prasad bowlers was S Mohamed with 1 for 14.

Also missing out on some time in the middle for East Coast was former national player and coach Seeram.

The Prasad team fought gamely but left their final acceleration too late as they fell short by 19 runs, ending 190-9 from their 30 overs.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul clean bowled three of the batsmen, two of them while bowling right arm over the wicket.

The versatile Tagenarine bowled left arm around  the wicket to right handers and right arm over the wicket to the left handers.

Prasad’s openers P. Narine and R. Dookeran took the score to 30 before  Dookeran perished for 17 and Narine for 15.

After that no other batsman was able to put together a substanstial partnership with Wazad Ali who batted well for an unbeaten 83 from 73 deliveries with eight fours. Tagenarine finished with figures of 3 for 22, while Sheik Mohamed Jr., had 3 for 26.
