LABA executive meets today to plan for BOSAI Open B/ball C/ships

The Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) will meet this evening

at either the Linden Enterprise Network on Republic Avenue, Mackenzie or the Mackenzie Sports Club Lounge on Green Heart Street to finalise plans for the staging of the inaugural Bosai Open basketball championship, billed to start month end.

Some seven clubs affiliated to LABA are expected to participate  when the tournament gets underway on  September  28 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court.

According to a pres release, the championships main aim is to resuscitate  the  sport in the mining town.

“The BOSAI Minerals Group (Guyana) Inc., which is the majority shareholder in the Linden bauxite operations, has pledged to help in the promotion of this competition in the region.

“As such they will be the main sponsor for this tournament which will be played in a two-group format among the seven participating clubs, with four coming out into the final four where they play in the semifinals and then qualify for the final,” stated the release.

The clubs expected to participate in the competition are  Retrieve Raiders, Wismar Pistons, Block 22 Flames, Victory Valley Royals, Amelia’s Ward Jets, Half Mile Bulls and Kashif and Shanghai Kings.

Clubs are to requested  to complete the registration of players before the tournament is  launched after which there will be a General Council meeting with the clubs at which meeting will be the announcement of other plans of the association for the remainder of the year, the release added.
