Lancaster cops two titles at Flex Night Berbice

On a night when young bodybuilding stars from Berbice showcased their talent, Alston Lancaster shone the brightest on Saturday, clinching two titles at the inaugural Flex Night Berbice Bodybuilding and Fitness Show at the Berbice High School.

Lancaster- of Windero Gym – copped the under 154-pound and overall titles in the Flex Night Berbice Show prior to the grand staging of the inaugural Flex Night International and Health & Fitness Expo which will be staged December 8 at the National Cultural Centre.

The 36-year-old dazzled the sizable crowd at the event when he displayed his rippling abdominals, well defined quadriceps and sculpted arms in his free posing routine and compulsory poses.

In the lightweight category (under 154 pounds), Lancaster took the spoils ahead of his gym mate Raymond Rabindranauth.  Lancaster and Rabindranauth were the only competitors in this category.

Lancaster later returned to out-pose and out-flex the winners of the other categories in the pose down.

Melroy Grant also of Windero Gym took first place in the bantamweight (under 143 pounds) category. Grant out-posed and out-flexed his gym mate, Sheed Toolaram, crowd favourite from House Of Pain Gym, Leon Mahadeo and Windero’s George Trim who placed second, third and fourth respectively.

In the most competitive division (over 165 pounds), Dwayne Mars from Crushers Gym, flexed his way to take the top honours in the category ahead of gym mates from Windero, Sherwin Haynes, Alex Hamilton, and Abdool Shaheer .

Alvin Goodman wowed the crowd in his free posing and compulsory routines with his ripped physique and also got the judges’ nod in the under 165-pound category. Goodman’s gymmates Roscoe Joseph and Sherlock Rigby took home the second and third place trophies in that order.

Windero’s Candacy Lynch was the only competitor in the Miss Flex Night Berbice Open category and  subsequently walked away with the winning spoils.

Ronello Cameron was awarded the trophy for winning the Miss Flex Night Berbice Best Legs category. Tiffany Ageday, Jennica Sandy and Ovauna Gillard also received trophies for competing.

The male athletes will move onto the prejudging on the morning of the Flex Night International for a chance to represent Guyana at the tri-nation event which will include Suriname and Brazil later in the day.

Gold medalist at this year’s Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, Devon Davis guessed posed at Saturday’s event as did three-time Ms. Hugh Ross Classic (HRC) winner, Alisha Fortune.

Donald Sinclair, Chairman of Flex Night Inc. dubbed the event a success and stated that next year he plans on staging a Flex Night West Demerara and Flex Night Linden.
