Windies up, Gayle down in ICC rankings

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, CMC- The West Indies cricket team is starting to climb again according to the latest Reliance ICC T20 rankings released  yesterday.

The Windies have moved up a notch from 8th to 7th place on the strength of recent victories in the ICC World T20 tournament now underway in Sri Lanka.

The Caribbean side has 111 ratings points, same as Australia which has also jumped one place from 7th to 6th position in the rankings.
West Indies and Australia play each other in the second semi-final of the tournament on Friday.

South Africa lost its number-one position after failing to qualify for the semi-finals suffering defeats against Pakistan, Australia and India.
The number-one position has now been taken over by Sri Lanka, which has only lost one of its five matches in the tournament so far. Meantime, Chris Gayle has lost his number two spot in the players’ rankings.

Gayle has slipped down a place to third behind Shane Watson as New Zealand’s wicket-keeper batsman Brendon McCullum maintains his number one spot.

Meantime, Gayle has moved up by two places to be fifth in the all-rounder ranking. Additionally, three other West Indies players-Johnson Charles, Marlon Samuels and Dwayne Bravo, have moved up the player rankings.

Charles who smashed 84 runs to top score for the Windies against England leaped 30 places to 31st, Samuels jumped 19 spots to be 38th while  Bravo  gained five places to the 25th position.

However Dwayne Smith has fallen eight places to be at number 60 in the ICC players’ rankings.
The player rankings will now be updated after the final of the ICC World Twenty20.
