Guyana’s and WIBA’s bantamweight champion Shondell “Mystery Lady” Alfred is billed to fight for the prestigious WBC Super flyweight Word Title in November.
According to a press release from the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) Alfred will fight Mexican Zulina Munoz for the vacant WBC title in Mexico City on November 24.
The WBC title is widely regarded as the most prestigious in the boxing world and the highest possible level of achievement in the sport.
Munoz who is known as La Loba (The She-Wolf) is a 25-year-old fighter who lives in Mexico City but hails from San Vincente, Chicoloapan in Mexico.
She has an outstanding record of 35 wins; 24 of them by knockout, against a solitary loss and two draws. Munoz has held the WBC Silver female bantamweight title since June last year and also won the WBC Silver female super flyweight title last month. She is a seasoned and tough campaigner.
The title was made vacant after Anna Maria Torres stepped aside to start her family. Torres, widely acknowledged as one of the best female boxers of this era, is revered in her native Mexico. She has ruled the division since 2006 as the WBC super flyweight champion, successfully defending her title eleven times.
Alfred, who has held the WIBA bantamweight title since 2010, is excited at the opportunity and has pledged that it will not be wasted. A decision has also been made that regardless the winner, if the fight is close and rematch warranted, it will be held in Guyana next year.
