DCC, GCC, Everest and GNIC through to semi-finals

The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) raced to victory at their home ground in Queenstown yesterday in their quarter-final of the Queensway Cup competition over the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) at the DCC ground in Queenstown.

GYO, who won the toss and batted were restricted to 171 all out in 38 overs. They lost Tagenarine Chanderpaul caught down the leg side off Andre Stoll for a duck while his opening partner John Campagne was lbw to Captain Christopher Barnwell for a duck.

Shivanand Roopnarine, one of GYO’s heroes in their first game was bowled by Barnwell and GYO found themselves stumbling at 15 for 5 when Stoll had Wazir Mohamed caught.

Ryan Shun then made 21 with four boundaries before being dismissed by Totaram Bishun.

But Kamesh Yadram counterattacked with 84, and also featured in a partnership with Pravindralall Persaud who made 34.

Yadram hit nine fours and three sixes before he was ninth out.

Andre Stoll finished with 3 for 26 and Barnwell 4 for 37.

DCC lost Andrew Lyght (junior) caught off Wayne Walker in the first over after hitting a six. Trevon Griffith made a rapid 27 with four boundaries and a six before he was dismissed with the score on 46 by Garfield DeRoache. Barnwell struck five sixes and five fours in a quick fire 59 before being caught off Yadram while Derwin Christian and Andrew Gibson played positively, with Christian striking three well timed sixes before ending the match with a four.

Gibson finished not out 40 with five fours as DCC romped to their target in 22.3 overs.  At Camp Ayanganna, Transport put up a decent fight against the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC).

Transport won the toss and batted but reached an insufficient 186 all out in 47 overs.

Rawle Merrell dismissed Stephon Sampson with score on 15 after which GNIC continued to take wickets at regular intervals.

Carl Rambarose carried on his good form by scoring 65 with five fours, Charwayne McPherson scored 38 with three fours and Azim Azeez supported with 22 which included four fours.

Merrell finished with 2 for 41, Rayon Griffith 2 for 25, and Orlando Fraser 2 for 28. There was one wicket for Collis Butts and Ranole Bourne.

In reply, GNIC’s Leroy Bristol and Elton Baker took the score to 50 for before Baker was dismissed for 13.

Shawn DeSouza made 25 and Bristol 48 with five fours and a six before Griffith and Dexter Solomon stabilized the chase as GNIC reached 187 in 46.4 overs to win by four wickets.

Solomon scored 42 and Griffith 21 while Jermaine Grovesnor finished not out on 17.

AT camp Road, Everest beat the Guyana Defence Force in an encounter that threatened to go GDF’s way at one point.

GDF won the toss and batted but lost Shemroy Barrington with the score on 12, dismissed by off spinner Chris Surat. With the middle order missing two key players, GDF struggled for fluency and fell for 154 in 44.1 overs.

Amir Khan hit the top score of 27 while Jeremiah Harris struck three fours in 20.

Troy Gonsalves finished 3 for 49,  Surat 2 for 16 and Zaheer Mohamed 3 for 23. There was a wicket each for Rajendra Chandrika, Shaeed Mohamed.

Everest had an opening stand of 52 before losing three wickets in the space of three runs.

Adrian Singh was out for 30 with five fours and after his demise Chanderpaul Hemraj was bowled by seamer Amir Khan.

Mohan Ramdeen was then lbw to Barrington while Chandrika scored 29 with two fours, before he too was caught off Barrington.

Troy Gonsalves and Shaheed Mohamed steadied the ship for Everest with an unbeaten partnership. Gonsalves ended on 38 with four fours, and the experienced Mohamed 36 two fours and six. Barrington finished with 3 for 29 and Ameer Khan 2 for 15 as Everest reached 156 for 5 in 32.5 overs.

At Malteenoes, Police only mustered 118 all out in 37 overs. Pernell London, 23, Jason Heyliger 20 and Ryan Rajmangal 15 were the top scorers. Bowling for GCC Raj Nannan had figures of 3 for 13, Joshua Wade 2 for 35 and Gavin Singh 2 for 35.

GCC raced to 122 for one in 19 overs.

Robin Bacchus hit 82 with 10 fours and four sixes. GCC lost their only wicket with the score on 55 when Jeetendra Sookdeo was caught for 19.Vishal Singh remained not out on 11.
