Former WBC title holder Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite said he has a lot riding on his fight against Shawn Corbin on the Redemption Card on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Braithwaite and Corbin will fight in the cruiserweight category for the vacant CABOFE/WBC cruiserweight title.

Wayne Braithwaite

Braithwaite yesterday told Stabroek Sport that this fight could give him the jumpstart he needs to boost his career after his first round knockout at the hands of Barbadian, Shawn Cox.

“This fights means a lot to me. From my last fight this will be a very key for me and a big win for my career should I win the fight.”

He said after his last defeat he took a break and went back to the drawing board to get his act together.

According to the former world title holder, he is where he wants to be at the moment.

Asked what are his chances of defeating Corbin, Braithwaite said he is confident that he will win the fight, but said he prefers to leave the chatter for fight night.

The two have never met in a ring, but Braithwaite said he has seen Corbin at work in the ring and believes he is a good fighter, something he is not prepared to take away from him, but reiterated that his chances of defeating the Trinidad-based Corbin are good.

Asked about preparation, the former WBC cruiserweight title holder said he is doing some amount of work in the gym and is focusing on his weak areas. He however, refused to disclose what those weak areas are, but said he will be fully ready for fight night.

Braithwaite added that he has not yet worked out what his strategy would be in the ring, but said he will not be disclosing that either.
