Carto shines but no zone winner announced

South Georgetown’s Inter Zone C/ships…..

Tiffany Carto’s performance was expected. Danta Thom’s was not and Thursday’s South Georgetown District Inter Zone track and field championships at the Eve Leary ground failed to produce a winner.

The meet which was contested between zones one and two of the South Georgetown District saw the final declaration of points still in dispute up to Thursday evening.

Tiffany Carto sprints to a win in the 200m for girls’ Under-20.

Eventually a decision was made to forego the declaration of an ultimate winner.

Nevertheless, the event achieved its main objective which was identifying athletes to represent the district at this year’s National School’s Championships next month.

Carto won the girls’ Under 20, 100, 200, and 400m a feat that came as no surprise given the national athlete’s performances earlier in the week.

Thom, running for zone one, managed to defeat zone two’s Alwyn Brimo of Charlestown’s Secondary in  the 100 and 200m Under-18  sprints while the boys’ Under-20 100m  was won by Freeburg Secondary’s Selwyn Foster who also added the 200m and 400m to his wins.

Freeburg Secondary made a clean sweep of the other events in the category after Marvin Tinnis placed first place in the 800m and 1500m races.

In the girls’ U-16 category, zone one’s Tirana Mitchell of East Ruimveldt Secondary School, blazed to wins in the 100m and 200m.

Following in her sister’s footsteps, Toshoya Mitchell emulated Tirana’s performance in the girls’ Under 14 category while Tasnica Lovell won the girls’ Under-18 100m and 200m.

Events in the South Georgetown District will come to a close on Monday with the cycling events which will be held at the National Park Circuit.
