Caribbean United, a football club team from Barbados will likely play in the 2012 Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Banks Beer-sponsored end-of-year football tournament scheduled to start December 16.

According to a GFA official, officials from the local association are presently in negotiations with the club which had previously competed in the annual Kashif and Shanghai football tournaments.

A few weeks ago GFA officials were playing it coy in that while they were not denying Caribbean United participation’s, they would only say that there is a possibility of an overseas team competing in the tournament.

It is understood that the GFA is working on finalising eight teams from three other sub associations namely East Coast, West Bank and Linden.

According to the source, it is necessary that all the teams competing in the end-of-year tournament are confirmed in order for the Players Cup Competition to start.

To date close to $9 million in cash incentives will be awarded to the top four teams in the end-of-year tournament.

The winning team is set to receive $4 million with $2 million going to the runners up.

The third and fourth-placed teams will receive $1.5 million and $1 million respectively.

Meanwhile the GFA on Monday received a donation from K&P Project Management Company.
