The group stage of the Guinness in the Street tournament culminates tonight with the final eight matches being played at the Albouystown Basketball Court where it all started.

In the first match Sophia A tackles South Ruimveldt, Norton Street West engages Cross Street, Alexander Village plays East La Penitence, West Front Road will tackle Festival City, West Back Road plays Broad Street, North Last Entrance challenges  Albouystown B, Back Circle takes on Stevedore Housing Scheme and Laing Avenue  will play Albouystown A.

Leopold Street and Sophia B in action

Meanwhile, at the Burnham Court on Tuesday Leopold Street, Globe Yard and East Front Road were only three teams to record victories with the  remaining five games ending in draws.

In the first match Omallow Williams scored the lone goal in the 20th minute as Leopold Street edged Sophia B 1-0 while California Square and Bent Street played to stalemate in the second match. Both teams played good defensive football.

Island All Star, in what could be described as an impressive comeback, then drew its match against Durban Street.

Durban Street, with two goals in eight minutes from Dimone Porter and Chris Galloway, in the second and eighth minutes respectively, seemed to have lowered the confidence of Island All Star. However, a shouting coach on the side and support from the crowd, saw All Star scoring two goals in the 20th and 21st minutes off the boot of Seon Cox.

Game four saw Globe Yard defeating Princess Street by a 2-0 margin with  Lionel `Lalai’ Grimes and Anthony France scored in the ninth and 29th minutes respectively.

Kingstown and Norton Street East played to a 1-1 draw in the fifth match. Nigel Danny and Rasesh George scored in the fifth and eighth minutes respectively for Kingstown and Norton Street East.

East Front Road defeated Berlin Massive by a 2-1 margin in game six with  Damon Kelly in the second and 21 minutes scoring for East Front Road while Teon Joseph scored in the 10th minute for Berlin Massive.

The seventh and eight matches ended in stalemates  between Broad Street A/Charlestown  and  Queen Street Tiger Bay and  Hope Street/Tiger Bay and Lodge Housing Scheme.

The sixteen teams moving on to the knockout stage will be announced on Saturday when the knockout stage begins. The two top teams from the eight groups will advance.
