Meet to feature Guyana-bred horses only

Bush Lot Turf Club in collaboration with the Young Achievers Group has organized a one-day horse racing meet for Guyana-bred horses on Sunday, December 9th at Bush Lot.

Compton Sancho, Organising Secretary, said eight races are carded for the meeting with the feature event in the B Class offering up $1 million and the Banks DIH trophy. Cash prizes and trophies, Sancho said, will be awarded to winners in other categories.

Having a competition for Guyanese-bred horses only, Sancho said, gives Guyanese stable owners an opportunity to compete without the fear of overseas owners riding away with the winnings.

Sancho said most of the country’s top horses are expected to be competing, “California Strike and Diamond Illusion from Sheriff Stables, Got to Go and Serenity from Jumbo Jet Stables, over on the Corentyne you have Simple Royal Stable along with Crawford, Elcock and Jagdeo stables”.

The meet, according to Sancho, should be exciting and he is encouraging race fans to come out in support. The meet, he said, starts from 1 pm.

Apart from Banks DIH, other sponsors of the event include Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, Sheriff Racing Stables, Simple Royal Racing Stables, JAPARTS and Good Wood Racing Service.
