Bangladesh call up promising spinner for final ODIs

DHAKA, Bangladesh,  CMC– Bangladesh yesterday called up left-armer Elias Sunny in an attempt to bolster their spin attack for the final two one-day internationals against West Indies.

Sunny has played three Tests, two One-Day Internationals and seven Twenty20 Internationals, taking three wickets in his ODI career to date.

His inclusion follows Windies four wicket win against the home side on Wednesday to halt a two-game losing skid, and haul themselves back into the five-match series.

“Sunny was added to the squad as we felt a spinner short in Wednesday’s third match,” said selector Minhajul Abedin. “West Indies were struggling against spinners but we were short of options. We missed Shakib badly in this game.”

Bangladesh are without their main spinner Shakib Al Hasan, who was ruled out after aggravating an injury in his right shinbone during a test match in Khulna last month.

The home side won the first two ODIs in Khulna but missed a chance to seal the five-match series in the third match in Dhaka.

The Windies victory was set up by a composed century from Marlon Samuels and a four wicket haul from Sunil Narine.
The fourth ODI is in Dhaka today.
