Dominica and St. Lucia locked in battle for first innings honours

ROSEAU, Dominica,  CMC- Host country Dominica and St. Lucia were locked in battle after day one Wednesday of their two-day third and final round encounter of the 2012 Windward Islands senior cricket championship.

Playing at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, St. Lucia closed on 167 for nine, still a further 11 runs adrift of Dominica’s score of 177 all out.

In St. Lucia’s 167, stand in captain, Keddy Lesporis scored 40, while West Indies batsman, Johnson Charles chipped in with 38.

Sergio Fedee and Gaspar Prospere have contributed 20 and 19 runs respectively.
Bowling for Dominica, West Indies off spinner, Shane Shillingford, who missed the last match against St. Vincent and the Grenadines because of a back strain, has so far taken three for 17 from 10 overs, which included two maidens.

Captain Liam Sebastien gave excellent support with three for 25 from 14 probing overs.
Ray Casimir, Elton Mark and Vincent Lewis all have one wicket each.

Earlier, Dominica, after being invited to take first knock under overcast conditions reached 177 all out.
Grayson Pacquette did the bulk of the scoring, hitting his highest score for Dominica in his second season and was last out on 89.

Ray Casimir weighed in with 28 and Vincent Lewis was unbeaten on 16.

Parkus Alexander with four for 24 was the most successful bowler for St. Lucia while Xavier Gabriel and Alex Antoine finished with two for 39 and two for 32 respectively.

At the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth, defending champions, St. Vincent and the Grenadines reached 208 for five at the close of play in their encounter against Grenada which began after lunch due to rain. Donwell Hector will resume on 81. Captain Lyndon James scored 26, while Miles Bascombe and Atticus Browne hit 25 runs apiece.

Bowling for Grenada, Denis George has so far taken three for 58 and Nelon Pascal has two for 58.
