Pamela Fox designs for showing in Paris

Guyana’s fashion is being taken to the international arena yet again and this time it’s via designer Pamela Fox, who has been invited by J Model Management Agency to be part of a show in Paris, France on July 30.

J Model Management is an international company headquartered in London, England. Pamela says she will be representing not just Guyana, but South America and the Caribbean. “This indeed is a great opportunity not only for me, but Guyana. It is a great set to expose our country,” she adds.

She explains to The Scene that 5 international designers from 5 continents were personally selected by a team to represent their land mass, she is honoured that from all the thousands of South American and Caribbean nations she was selected.

She says she asked the organisation how it came to know of her work and was told that one of its scouts saw an online catalogue of her designs and loved them. “I’m sitting in my corner and all these great things are coming to me,” she says.

The fashion show will be on a large all-glass boat sailing on the Seine. For an event on this magnitude Pamela is encouraging sponsorship from any company and anyone willing to help. She has already approached Banks DIH Limited, the Ministry of Tourism and Digicel. Pamela remarks that it is a great event to showcase Guyana.

When asked what are some of her designs that she plans on exhibiting she notes that she is doing her signature trademarks – crotchet with cotton, linen or silk. For £5,000 she plans on showcasing ten items. The international press will be there and she is hoping to benefit financially from the exposure in the form of new clients for her designs.

Pamela is no stranger to the international scene; she is planning on having fashion shows and markets in London at the end of the year. Her two brands – Foxy Jeans and Franjapeni were sold in Barbados, Trinidad, Puerto Rico and the Cayman Islands.

She is in collaboration with other designers in the process of forming a national designers association to properly help and motivate young designers in a professional way. She is currently working on a line with her supportive friend – Amanda Wilson, a former journalist who now resides in London. From this month end she will be showcasing in the British Virgin Islands. Her pieces include resort lines: swimsuits, cover ups, beach bags and sandals.
